Thank you to everyone who recently participated in our Speyside Hydrogen community consultation activity or submitted feedback based on our planning application.
We understand that any development can cause disruption and, as a business committed to decarbonisation and sustainability, we also understand that projects can impact people and the environment in different ways. We were pleased with the amount of interest in the Speyside Hydrogen project and have carefully reviewed all the constructive feedback received from various communities and groups who are interested in our project.
Our focus is on creating the best, most sustainable outcome, always thinking of the long-term benefits we are trying to achieve for our industrial customers and the regions where we seek to operate. Energy production and transportation is a highly regulated industry, and safety and environmental considerations are always key priorities for us.
Our site selection and project design processes consider many aspects, including how to reduce impact during construction, preventing and minimising environmental and visual impacts and, importantly, enabling the long-term sustainability of the industries we support. Key considerations for Speyside Hydrogen include:
During our public consultations and following the submission of our planning application most of the feedback on Speyside Hydrogen focussed on ten key areas that we have now added to our FAQs.
The Speyside Hydrogen planning application was submitted in February 2025, and the Council’s consultation period has now closed. A permitting decision is expected in mid-August 2025.
