London, United Kingdom, 12 December 2024 – As Europe strives to meet its net zero targets, the Trudvang Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project will play a crucial role in the North Sea’s contribution to sustainable decarbonisation. Located near Sleipner, one of the world’s most established CCS facilities, Trudvang is positioned to leverage extensive geological knowledge and existing infrastructure to deliver a robust solution for industrial CO₂ emissions.
With a restructured ownership group now comprising Storegga Norge AS (30%), Var Energi CCS AS (40%), and INPEX Idemitsu Norge AS (30%), Trudvang is entering a new phase of its development. The collaborative partnership is primed to harness its collective expertise to advance this critical project, setting the stage for Trudvang to play a pivotal role in Europe’s decarbonisation efforts.
A Strategic Focus for Storegga
Trudvang aims to begin operations in 2029, with a target to store 8 to 10 million tonnes of CO₂ annually at full capacity. The project represents a key component of Storegga’s commitment to building infrastructure for a net-zero future. The project aligns with our expertise and ambition to deliver scalable and reliable carbon storage solutions, particularly in regions where robust infrastructure and deep geological understanding converge.
Storegga CEO, Tim Stedman reflected on the project’s potential:
"Trudvang CCS exemplifies the kind of large-scale, impactful projects needed to meet Europe’s climate targets. With its proximity to Sleipner and the wealth of geological knowledge in the region, Trudvang is well-positioned to be a leading CO₂ storage hub. We are proud to be a part of this critical initiative and are dedicated to advancing its development alongside our partners.”
Trudvang's Role in Europe’s Net Zero Future
As demand for CCS solutions grows across Europe, Trudvang stands out for its capacity to safely and permanently store significant volumes of CO₂. The project’s strategic location offers direct access to industrial emitters seeking to reduce their carbon footprint, making it a crucial enabler for industries transitioning to sustainable operations.
Storegga’s participation in Trudvang’s development underscores our commitment to advancing projects that deliver tangible climate solutions. As the partnership moves forward, Trudvang is set to solidify its role as a world-class CO₂ store, and a vital piece of Europe’s net-zero puzzle.
